ABOUT US
It may come as a surprise to many, but football has a long and interesting history; sources suggest that the sport was first introduced in England as early as 1170 when an account describes youths going to the fields for a ‘game of ball’. Aspects of the game can even be traced back to as early as the second and third century BC in China. Sources taken from military manuals at the time describe an exercise called Tsu’ Chu, in which opponents used a leather ball filled with feathers and hair. The aim was to get the ball into a small net fixed on to bamboo canes while also defending themselves from attacks. Variations of the game are also documented in Egyptian and Greek society, proving that the sport has a long tradition throughout history.
On this date in October 1999, some passionate individuals came together and established a Club known as Blanco FC in the Township of Barnersville. The intent of those who established the club was to empower young females who have been marginalized, deprived and overlooked in society. The Club was established to give young females hope in the midst of the challenges they face on a daily basis and to redirect their lives through #Sports.
Since the existence of Blanco FC, she has transformed many females in Barnersville and Liberia at large. The likes of Bendu Gweh and Fatmata Dean, formerly of the Liberia National Team, Agatha BN Nimene, Winnie B Dorbah, Lucy Armah Massaquoi and others are some of Blanco's successes. The Club is also gifted for bagging several awards in the Women's Football Division of the Liberia Football Association National League. She is credited for carrying the FA Cup three times in roll, unlike her fellow contenders.
As the Club celebrates 21 years of existence as well as giving females a new sense of belonging, we would like to appreciate the entire leadership of the Club, the players, fans, supporters and well-wishers for their tremendous and overwhelming support they have given the club over the years.
